Chronic Pain Advocacy

"The key, though, win or lose, is to never fail. And the only way to fail is not to fight. So you fight until you can't fight anymore. Hold up your head and enter the arena and face the enemy. Fight until you can't fight anymore. Never let go. Never give up. Never run. Never surrender. Fight the good fight. Even when it seems inevitable that you're about to go down swinging."

- "Amelia Shepherd," Grey's Anatomy

Amelia Shepherd, M.D. is a fictional character on the ABC American television medical drama Private Practice, and the spinoff series' progenitor show, Grey's Anatomy, portrayed by Caterina Scorsone.

On September 11, 2020 I had the opportunity to advocate for the chronic pain and chronic illness community in a really BIG way!
🎗
For those of you who rely on opioid medication to get by in your day-to-day you may have noticed that it has become increasingly more difficult to get the same scripts you were once easily able to obtain.
🎗
That’s because in 2016 the CDC (Centers for Disease Control and Prevention) released stricter prescribing guidelines regarding opioids. Now, the CDC wants to hear from our community about what it’s like to live in the US with chronic pain and illness under the stricter CDC prescribing guidelines- and yours truly was chosen to share her story!
🎗
I can only hope my meeting with the CDC voiced ALL of our struggles properly. More to come! 😉

Pain Awareness Proclamation - Scotch Plains, NJ

Pain affects an estimated 100 million Americans.[1] In fact, pain affects more Americans than diabetes, heart disease and cancer combined [2] with an estimated 1.5 billion people worldwide suffering from chronic pain.[3]

While acute pain is “normal” and acts as a “warning signal” to alert us we’ve incurred injury, chronic pain is persistent. After 12 short weeks of consistent pain in the body, pain moves away from being categorized as acute and moves into chronic – meaning pain signals keep firing in the nervous system for weeks, months, even years.

According to a 2011 Institute of Medicine Report: Relieving Pain in America: A Blueprint for Transforming Prevention, Care, Education, and Research, pain is a significant public health problem that costs society at least $560-$635 billion annually, an amount equal to about $2,000.00 for everyone living in the U.S.[4]

Kairos Chronic Pain Coaching is participating in this year's Pain Awareness Month by discussing holistic, integrative, non-pharmacologic pain management solutions via KCPC’s website, social media business accounts, local media outlets, and last week’s Facebook Live interview with you, Mayor Smith. Additionally, we have partnered with Hellenic Therapy Center, a long-time Scotch Plains business.

In recognition of the growing importance of pain management solutions, and the impact of pain on both sufferer and family in the mental, emotional, physical and spiritual body systems, Christina H Chororos and Kairos Chronic Pain Coaching are committed to spreading chronic pain awareness.
