Early Career + Credentials

"What you get by achieving your goals is not as important as what you become by achieving your goals."

- Zig Ziglar

Hilary Hinton "Zig" Ziglar was an American author, salesman, and motivational speaker

After graduating with Honors and earning my bachelor's degree in Human Development from Lynchburg College in Lynchburg, Virginia,

I began my career as a pre-school teacher and site director for the Washington-Metropolitan YMCA in Bethesda, Maryland.

By the middle of my first year of teaching, family matters prompted a relocation back to my hometown in New Jersey. Unable to obtain a teaching position mid-year, I decided to follow in the footsteps of my grandfather, great uncle, father, and mother by entering the world of business.

I worked as an advertising sales executive for major corporations like Verizon Information Services, Indeed, and Titan Advertising.

Eventually, wanting to "marry" my two passions - education and business, I moved into the K-12 educational curriculum arena becoming a territory sales manager for Kendall Hunt Publishing Company.

After a fourteen-year sales career, and an eleven-year plight with chronic pain, chronic illness, and mental health, I decided to write a brand new chapter. To read my chronic illness story, please click here.

In April 2017, I went back to school to obtain my Integrative Wellness Life Coaching Certificate. Additionally, I obtained a continuing education certificate of completion for Counseling on Access to Lethal Means (CALM) from The Suicide Prevention Center.

I am particularly proud to have established the first endometriosis support group in New Jersey.

In the fall of 2018, I launched Kairos Chronic Pain Coaching.

Wanting to continue my education, I obtained a Graduate Certificate in Pain Management from the University of Connecticut (UCONN) in the spring of 2020.

Today, Kairos Chronic Pain Coaching proudly offers one-on-one coaching sessions for chronic pain, chronic illness, and mental health sufferers.

Christina is also a passionate chronic pain advocate and proudly writes for iPain Living Magazine, a quarterly magazine published by the International Pain Foundation.

How Did My Early Career Prepare Me For Being a Chronic Pain, Chronic Illness and Mental Health Coach?

To be a successful, effective teacher, I had to adopt a "continuing education" mentality, practice patience, participate in teamwork, learn to adjust my teaching methods in order to accommodate various learning styles, and develop cogent communication skills, mentorship, and leadership skills.

To be a successful, effective saleswoman, I had to learn to keep moving forward despite rejection or setbacks, truly understand who my clients were and what their needs were, hone listening and communication skills, rationally discuss concerns and apprehensions upfront, present and educate in a concise, constructive manner, quickly establish trust, and identify with clients by learning the art of compelling storytelling.
