For me, the chronic pain recovery program established a stable foundation from which to learn from while igniting a passion for understanding what it takes to live a healthy, victorious life in immense daily pain. By August of 2013, I was well on my way to getting my body back in shape, and narrowing down physical, mental, emotional and spiritual coping skills I could realistically implement on a daily basis.  

 

I began to dissect my successful formula and was able to identify a few essential pieces...which, by the way, was backed by research. My success was built upon 6 essential components.  

 

 

1. A Willing Attitude. 

I truly believe there are two, and only two attitudes of someone in chronic pain. Unwilling and willing. ALL of us begin with an unwilling attitude but not all of us move into a willing attitude. I may not have known the direction I needed to go in so that I could change my life, but I DID know that I had to be WILLING and open to trying to do so. 2. Acceptance.

Accepting my illness, my circumstances, my expectations and my limitations was the first step.  

 

3. Attitude + Thoughts.  

I had to face that I needed an overhaul in my attitude. I had allowed myself to become a victim of my circumstances. I felt sorry for myself. I wasn't grateful or positive. I was bitter and angry. Changing my thinking and outlook was a necessary paradigm shift. 

 

4. Self-management. 

Managing my own health care was something that re-built my confidence, but also made me feel like I was in control of my illness, regardless of the possibility that it was merely perceived control. 

 

5. Support.

Meeting other chronic pain sufferers was a tremendous step in my walk with chronic pain. Often times, as chronic pain sufferers we begin to isolate ourselves, whether we're aware we are doing it or not. Any activity drains our energy so when faced in doing anything more than what is absolutely necessary, we just can't...which more times than not, leads to depression, anxiety and eventually, isolation. Often times, even our most supportive friends and family can become frustrated and offended by our inability to follow through on plans and/or commitments. Connecting with other people who understand your plight is imperative in beginning to heal.    

 

6. Education.

Learning about chronic pain, identifying behaviors and patterns that contribute to emotional and physical pain, practicing effective communication techniques and implementing new tools for coping with pain was paramount for me. CP affects family, career, relationships + friendships and frankly, much more. Gathering knowledge, understanding recent research relevant to your plight, and, using that information to better grasp an understanding of chronic pain is the gateway to a new life with CP. 

 

Geography, economics, mobility, insurance, and employment and/or personal commitments are just a few of the identifiable factors that prevent chronic pain patients from receiving balanced pain management care.

 

Though I figured out what worked for me, and was blessed enough to have the opportunity to attend a private, in-patient, chronic pain recovery program, I identified a significant need for accessible, comprehensive, alternative pain management education and guidance in the chronic pain community- so, I began working to do just that. 

 

Wanting to help other women suffering from endometriosis and share my newfound coping skills for chronic pain I established the first support group in New Jersey for women struggling with the horrifying disease. 

 

I went on to obtain my integrative wellness life coaching certificate and founded Kairos Chronic Pain Coaching, LLC in 2017, Additionally, I obtained a continuing education certificate of completion for Counseling on Access to Lethal Means (CALM) from The Suicide Prevention Center.

In 2019, I was accepted into the University of Connecticut's (UCONN) Pain Management Graduate program and will be graduating in the Spring of 2020. 

 

At the heart of our approach, lies a commitment to help our clients let go of the life they exist in so they can successfully create a new life worth living by catering to our client's needs, preferences, and concerns.

Christina H Chororos founded Kairos Chronic Pain Coaching in the fall of 2017 after obtaining her Integrative Wellness Life Coaching certification from the Integrative Wellness Academy.

 

Christina graduated with honors from Lynchburg University with a Bachelor of Science in Human Development and Learning in 2002. Recently, Christina was accepted into the University of Connecticut’s Pain Management Graduate Program.

 

Christina is a decade-long deep infiltrating endometriosis sufferer, speaker and, suicide prevention + chronic pain patient advocate.
